mem·o·ry

/ˈmem(ə)rē/

noun.

Something remembered from the past; a recollection.

Chelsea is extremely good at always focusing on the NEGATIVE things that effect her each day. We have to continually remind her of all the GREAT things that also happen.

So because of this, starting a memory jar for both her and us as a family is a wonderful way to reflect on those memories. Every time something positive or significant happens, add it to a jar to read back on at the end of the year. It’s a fantastic way to hold onto all the positives, and as you watch the jar fill up, you can take a peek anytime your having a hard time and reflect on all the good things. It's not something that you have to contribute to each day, so don’t feel pressured. Maybe you haven’t done something positive (as we all understand, there are good and bad days.) So why not use different coloured pieces of paper to write an Inspirational Quote to yourself or another colour that a family member or friend can write on and add to the jar. It is often easier for someone looking in to see all the great accomplishments that you have achieved.

A separate family jar, is a great way to share all the fun memories that have happened within the family. It is amazing how easily some can be forgotten. Adding different coloured paper is another way to write about either different family members or positive memories that you want to share with your child at the end of the year?

~ “Out of sight out of mind” means precisely that ~ So keep the jar accessible with pen and paper handy.

~ If you have post-it notes, you can easily stick the paper together before adding it to the jar.

~Add a date to each note if it’s a memory.

~Environmentally friendly idea- Cut up your old Christmas Cards and then your Birthday cards into squares and write on the back. A great way to recycle each card and add some fun and colour to the jar.

~ If you do this, use different coloured pens to represent ~ Memories _ Inspirational Quotes and one for family and friends to write a message with.

Open the jar at the end of the year and read all the notes, to see how many positives that HAVE happened to you over the last year, it’s a great way to start the New Year.
