About me

If you have just joined my Blog,

"Welcome"

Here is a little about me to start off with.

I am a very proud mum to two beautiful daughters, our eldest is in University and loves life and adventure and is happy to just go with the flow in whatever comes her way. Then we have our other daughter  18 months younger who is entirely different, she needs structure and calm, who loves to constantly have a "plan" in place and who can only deal with each day as it comes. I have been happily married to Simon since 1998, and we run Esq Design Inc a Bespoke Cabinetry and Millwork business.  I work from home doing the media and bookkeeping and now have added this Blog to my life!! In my spare time (ha~ha~ha)  I love to cook, entertain and we as a family enjoy travelling.

In my younger life I was born in England, moved to Canada (East Coast) and lived there till I was 9yrs old, moved back to England till I was 25yrs and then returned to Canada  (West Coast) when I met Simon who was travelling and had stopped in England on route back to Canada....and lets just say I was his souvenir!! We have made Vancouver area our home now for the last 26yrs...if your following you can also work out my age!!! I have trained as a Nursery Nurse in the UK (trained in maternity, special care and Paediatrics, Teachers Assistant and in Day Cares) and was a nanny for many years travelling with the children and families while I was based in London. Once I became a mum I started up Almost As Good As Mum Nanny Agency that I ran for 10yrs, we also flipped homes for many years till we settled into our home where we still live since 2011.

So you may be wondering why I have stated this Blog? It's very simple, bringing up a daughter who suffers from Anxiety and Depression is extremely challenging. By being able to talk openly about our daily life (past and present), I hope to increase understanding and support around Mental Illness in an honest and non-judgemental way. Every person is an individual, and anyone who has a Mental Illness will suffer from different issues but by sharing what we are going through I hope that it will help you to know that you are not alone. I always say to our daughters if you are able to find ONE positive thing that you can use from something you have read, a talk or presentation "that" is one more helpful thing you can learn from. I'm not an expert in anything but, we have been our daughters advocate and have had to learn about Mental Illness.  We have had some great successes and some major failures, but it's all a learning curve and what may have worked for us may not work for you, and that is ok. Like I said, everyone is an individual, I hope that you will find that "ONE" piece of information that helps or better yet multiple helpful articles and come away knowing that you are not alone in this.

Every day is a different day when you have a child who suffers from Anxiety and Depression, on the good days I am able to enjoy doing fun things like, cooking, design and actually getting out and about.....so I'm going to incorporate those too as its nice to have a balance for both of us while I write and you read.

I look forward to hearing from you.
