I was messaged today and asked about our business Esq Design Inc, and instead of sending a single reply (which I did with a short version) I thought that I would share a better-detailed one for all to read ~ “because I’m nice like that!!!!”
Esq Design Inc is a company that was started in 1997 by Simon out of a friends garage as a fun pastime for him. However, once back creating some bespoke pieces of furniture for friends, he soon outgrew the garage and moved to a larger workshop where he started to make custom kitchens and millwork for homes.
Working with designers at first, he began to build a reputation and has grown steadily ever since
Although I have always been a part of the company as a proud wife, I actually started to work part-time helping with the bookkeeping as that certainly is not one of Simons strengths!!! From there I created both the website for the business ~ Now that was a learning curve I can tell you and our Houzz page ~for anyone not familiar with Houzz but loves renovating, decorating or just enjoys looking at pictures of amazing homes, gardens, rooms etc. take a look. I'm extremely fortunate to be able to work for ourselves as I would never have been able to hold down any job with Chelsea and her anxiety as its been a full-time job being her mum ~Ok so being a mum is always a full-time job don’t mistake what I said with what I meant. Being a parent to any child who has a Mental illness means you never know if you will be needed before school, during school, afternoon or midnight weekends or holidays. You have to be available to be hands-on when-ever needed.
So being able to work from home for Esq Design Inc has given me that flexibility as the only real deadline I have is with Revenue Canada!!
Simon is exceptionally talented, and although worked many years ago for someone else doing cabinetry, he is mainly self-taught. He recognized at an early age an appreciation for design and this is where together with that and being extremely creative, we have been able to grow the business into what it is today.
