The excitement of the first few weeks of the school year can be wearing off, the reality is now hitting, and the anxiety is building up. Be prepared either this week or in the weeks to come as anxiety can present itself with tears and tummy aches. It's important to talk with your child about their fears and worries. During this time its going to be hard to stand your ground and not give in and let your child stay at home, if you do it will continue, however sometimes they really may be ill so use your judgement and don't beat yourself up if you send them to school, and it turns out they are sick - your not alone and I have been that mum who got the call from the school office asking me to pick them up as they were sick...WHOOPS!!!!
By allowing them to stay at home will only reinforce their anxiety and believe me, it will make it so much worse in the long run.
"You let me stay home on Monday, why NOT today."
It's going to be a constant battle, so be prepared. It's exhausting and mentally draining ~ I know the feeling so well, but my Moto and what I have stuck to over all these years is
"Start the way you mean to continue"
if this is something important .....and of course school is - stick with my Moto!!!!
I'm not going to sugar coat any of this as your going to be taking some great positive steps forward with your child and feel fabulous about it, and the minute you start relaxing BOOM you're taking 10 steps back. If only you could lose weight with all these back and forth steps.....I'd be a size 12 I'm sure!!!
