Around the world in 80 washes but why wait to go away on holiday to start using Lush Shampoo Bars.

Shampoo Bars
Honey I washed my hair, Senik Shampoo bars from Lush.

One of the best and easiest way’s to start going plastic-free in your home is by switching out your regular shampoo for Shampoo bars from Lush. We were persuaded by our daughter to try them after she started at University with the desire to be both more environmentally and student budget-friendly. Since then, shampoo bars have completely replaced shampoo in our household, and I don’t think any of us will go back….and that includes Simon!

One of the best parts about shampoo bars is that depending on your hair, it can last up to 80 washes per bar, which replaces an average of three regular plastic shampoo bottles. They also include only natural ingredients and essential oils meaning there are no harsh chemicals that can damage your hair, they also don’t contain water unlike regular shampoo which can contain up to 80% of water so really its better bang for your buck and who doesn’t like that!

They are also entirely packaged free meaning you are doing your part for the environment too! One downside of the shampoo bars is the price which can vary from about $10.95 (We are in Canada) upwards; however, when you factor in how many uses you get out of them they end up cheaper a wash then paying for regular shampoo! Plus with the added bonus of it not ending up in the landfill!

Our family's favourite is "Honey I washed my hair" the honey toffee scent is incredible, and that's even before you have used it!! This bar adds so much shine and bounce that I am always being complimented on how bright and shiny my hair is. However Lush offers countless other kinds of bars that vary in what they do for your hair.

There are several other kinds of Shampoo Bars all offering the same natural ingredients, and I love all the names. ShampooBars Lush

REHAB or CURLY WURLY (coconut pudding "Yummy"!!!) for those that need to strengthen your hair or do you want to add bounce and volume, try SEANIK, I LOVE JUCY or

DADDY-O, just to name a few.

How to use Shampoo Bars

Using it is so easy too, all you have to do is take the dry shampoo bar and lather it up either in your hands or directly onto your wet hair while in the shower. If your lathering it directly onto your head make sure you run the bar over your hair only a few times as it really begins to lather up once you start working it into your hair like you would do with regular shampoo “I promise.” Finding how many times you should run it over your hair is tricky and takes some trial and error, but we find that we only have to run it over our hair 3 or 4 times from top to bottom.

Tips and Tricks!

Ensure that you keep the bar completely dry while not in use, we keep it on the windowsill in one bathroom and then on a show rack in the other for easy accessibility and directly back after we’ve put it on our hair. Keeping it as dry as possible will ensure it lasts longer!

The bars are available through the lush website link or in-store, we have found the shipping on their site to be extremely quick and easy, which was a pleasant SURPRISE. Make sure you’re the first to open the box as the smell is fantastic!!

Also if you’re lucky enough to live in Liverpool England starting May 2019, Lush has opened a “Hairlab” Link which provides expert hair treatments, cuts, and styling to name a few, all with their own products. Think I may have to plan a visit back to England soon for this!!

It is also helpful to know that Lush is: 100% vegetarian ~ Ethical Buying ~ Against Animal testing ~ Handmade and has naked packaging…all fantastic for the environment.
